Embracing Mistakes: A Journey of Growth and Learning
Imagine being a new immigrant in a foreign country, struggling to learn the local language while adapting to a new way of life. These challenges can be overwhelming, and the mistakes made along the way are often met with judgment or ridicule. However, what if we viewed these mistakes not as failures, but as stepping stones to growth?
This article is for anyone who has felt discouraged by language barriers, and for those who might benefit from understanding the resilience it takes to overcome them.
Language challenges are not limited to any one group. They affect new immigrants adapting to unfamiliar environments, international students striving to excel academically, and professionals navigating global workplaces. Refugees rebuilding their lives and second-language learners pursuing personal growth all share this journey.
No matter the circumstances, what unites these individuals is their resilience and determination to improve. Their experiences remind us that learning and growth are processes we should respect and encourage.
Have you ever felt ashamed or discouraged because you keep making mistakes in writing or speaking, especially when English is not your first language? If so, you are not alone. Many people face this struggle, and it is natural to feel disheartened at times. Learning a new language is a journey, and every step—smooth or challenging—is part of the process.
Fluency in English does not always reflect intelligence or education. Around the world, many highly educated individuals—doctors, engineers, professors—still face challenges with English as a second language. Their pronunciation may not be perfect, and they may still make mistakes in writing, but that does not diminish their knowledge or expertise.
Mastering a language takes time, practice, and real-world experience. Even native speakers make mistakes. So if you are still learning, keep going. Every step forward is progress, and every mistake is a lesson, not a limitation.
Mistakes are inevitable, but here is the truth: mistakes are not failures. They are proof that you are trying, learning, and growing. Every error you make is an opportunity to improve. Through these “learning moments,” we refine our skills and get closer to mastering something new.
However, let us not sugarcoat it—there will always be people who do not understand your journey. They may mock, criticize, or belittle your efforts. Their words can sting, but remember: their opinions do not define your worth or your ability to grow. What matters is your resilience.
Some people refuse to be discouraged by mockery or humiliation. Instead, they keep pushing forward, learning from every mistake until they achieve mastery. That is the attitude to embrace! Be patient with yourself, celebrate small victories, and recognize that your mistakes are stepping stones to success.
When you are working on your writing or speaking and making progress—no matter how small—that is growth. What do we call the errors you make along the way? Learning milestones. They are markers of how far you have come and how much further you can go.
The Bible is full of stories about people who did not seem “qualified” but were chosen and equipped by God for great things. Moses had trouble speaking, yet God called him to lead (Exodus 4:10-12). David was the youngest and least likely to be king, yet God saw his potential (1 Samuel 16:7-13). In the same way, God does not expect perfection from us. He calls us to keep moving forward, trusting Him to guide and strengthen us.
So, do not let mistakes hold you back. Take them as lessons, lean on God for strength, and continue to press on. Your dedication to learning and growing, even when it is hard, speaks volumes about your character and determination.
Take it from me: never let anyone stop you from pursuing your dreams. They do not know your calling, nor do they understand the challenging paths God has called you to walk. Challenges will come your way, but those very challenges will shape you and lead you to where you are meant to be in life.
What I have learned is that life is far more fulfilling when we refuse to take shortcuts, even when the journey is tough. As human beings, we will make mistakes—mistakes are proof of our humanity and a reminder that we are not God. There is freedom in knowing your conscience is clear because you are doing what is right. As the saying goes, ‘Slow and steady wins the race,’ so take the stairs instead of the elevator.
We truly value our accomplishments when we have worked hard for them, not when they come easily through the wrong means. So, hold your head high, and do not let anyone stand in the way of who God has called you to be.
Remember, your worth is not determined by the opinions of others but by the One who created you and loves you. Keep striving, keep learning, and let your journey inspire others who might be walking a similar path.
You’re stronger than you realize, and every step forward—mistakes included—takes you closer to the person God is shaping you to be. -CLK
Faith, Resilience, and Victory: Reflections on 2024
I do not know about you, but for me, 2024 was a fantastic year—despite the many mistakes (errors), I made. It was a year filled with valuable lessons and deep self-reflection. Balancing life as a wife, a mother—and more than just those roles, as someone striving to stay focused on the things of God—is no easy task. Trust me, life is tough.
Acknowledging that life is hard does not necessarily mean someone is facing financial struggles—it is about recognizing that life itself can be challenging. Anyone who claims otherwise, as if life isn’t tough for everyone in some way, isn’t showing the full reality of life.
Mistakes are an inevitable part of life, especially when learning something new or striving to improve a skill. They serve as evidence that we are trying, stepping out of our comfort zones, and pushing ourselves toward growth. No one is flawless, and making errors reflects our humanity. Even with the best preparation and effort, unforeseen circumstances or misunderstandings can lead to mistakes—but this does not diminish their value.
Instead of fearing mistakes, we should embrace them as opportunities for reflection and growth. Every misstep offers valuable insights into what works and what does not, helping us to adjust, improve, and become wiser individuals.
“Mistakes are not failures but stepping stones that guide us toward resilience and success. The key is to learn from them, adapt, and keep moving forward with faith and determination.”

In the same way, when God appoints someone to fulfill His mission, He often leads them through difficult paths to accomplish His will. The journey is not always easy or clear, and those He calls may not fully understand the ‘why’ or the process. Yet, through challenges, He strengthens, refines, and prepares them for His greater purpose.
Some may eventually understand the reason behind their trials, while others may never fully grasp it—but faith calls us to trust Him regardless.
When God appoints someone for His mission, He does not leave them to figure it out alone. He speaks, reassures, and reminds them not to be afraid, for He is the one leading them. Though the journey may be challenging, His presence is the greatest assurance that they are never alone.
Throughout the Bible, we see this pattern with people like Moses, Joshua, Jeremiah, and even the disciples—God calls them, assures them of His presence, and strengthens them for the journey ahead. While we may not fully understand God’s ways, here are some insights that may help:
Why not fulfill God’s will in my own dialect? Why a foreign language to accomplish His mission?
God often calls people to step beyond their comfort zones to show that His power, not human ability, is what accomplishes the mission. A foreign language or culture might be part of the mission because God wants to reach people beyond what you originally expected.
Perhaps there is a greater impact in a place or language that you did not initially consider. It also requires deeper faith and reliance on Him rather than personal strength. When you accomplish something in an unfamiliar language, it is a testimony that God is the one working through you.
Why does God give hard missions to His chosen ones to accomplish, and why not the easiest one?
To refine and strengthen them – Just like gold is purified in fire, challenges shape and prepare God’s people for greater things. To reveal His power – If a mission were easy, people might take credit for it, but when it seems impossible, all glory goes to God.
To build faith and obedience – Walking with God means trusting Him even when things don’t make sense. Hard missions require total dependence on Him. To fulfill a greater purpose – What seems hard now may have a long-term impact beyond what we can see. God’s plan is always bigger than our understanding.
Think about biblical figures like Moses, Joseph, Esther, and Paul. None of them had an easy mission, yet through their challenges, God’s will was fulfilled in powerful ways. But through every challenge, one truth remains: no matter what difficulties, mistakes, or obstacles arise in life, the ultimate goal should be to remain victorious by maintaining faith, perseverance, and trust in Christ Jesus.
Being ‘victorious’ does not necessarily mean avoiding struggles or achieving worldly success. Instead, it means overcoming challenges with faith, integrity, and reliance on God’s strength. It is about staying steadfast in your spiritual journey, holding onto hope, and knowing that true victory is found in Christ, regardless of external circumstances.
As 2025 unfolds, may your steps be steady, your heart remain kind, and your faith unshaken. Let love be your anchor, truth your guide, and resilience your strength in every season.
